Natalie and I LOVE concept shoots! It’s pure creativity! Concept shoots intentionally tell a story (unlike documentary shoots that capture a story being told). As the creator, you control all aspects of the storytelling. We often include images from these concept shoots in our proposal for your project so you can really envision what your images will look like.
Every shoot starts with a story or theme. What does the image need to convey? Typically, this directly relates to your business’s marketing message. Some examples of common marketing messages include:
- what sets you apart from the competition
- how you solve a problem for your clients
- your value proposition
- inspiration for change
- trust building connections
Working with heart-centered small businesses means these images convey vulnerability, authenticity, and trust while connecting, resonating, and engaging with their audience. The goal is to build relationships through storytelling. It’s so much more than a pretty picture!
How in the world do you make an image do all that?
Lots of planning! Things we consider for every shoot:
- the audience
- the message
- the emotion
- how the image will be used
- the storytelling impact
- composition
- lighting
- movement or layers
- editing style
Behind the scenes:
Adventurous, fun, bright, high-energy, colorful
Moody, high-contrast, the look of window light, sophisticated, nature-inspired
